Criminal Law

We defend you before the law.

From the first hour of an investigation to the final appeal, we represent clients as suspects, defendants, complainants or intervening parties. In a Turkish criminal proceeding, what enters the record decides the outcome.

Scope

  • Defence counsel during the investigation phase
  • Defence at trial
  • Counsel for complainants and intervening parties
  • Regional appeals and cassation review
  • Challenges to protective measures

Process

  1. 01InvestigationThe phase conducted by the public prosecutor. Statements, custody and protective measures arise here — and with them, the right to have defence counsel present.
  2. 02IndictmentIf the investigation yields sufficient suspicion to open a public case, an indictment is drawn up and accepted by the court.
  3. 03TrialThe hearing phase. Evidence is argued, witnesses are heard, and the defence enters the record in writing and in person.
  4. 04JudgmentThe court rules and writes its reasoning.
  5. 05AppealsRegional appeal and, where the conditions are met, cassation review.

Frequently recorded questions

The answers below are general information; your specific matter requires a consultation.

  • What are the rights of a person taken into custody?

The right to remain silent, the right to defence counsel and the right to have relatives notified, among others — rights that must be communicated before any statement is taken, under Article 147 of the Turkish Code of Criminal Procedure (CMK).

  • How do I find out whether I am under investigation?

Unless a confidentiality order is in place, investigation files can be examined through defence counsel; some records can also be viewed on e-Devlet, Türkiye's e-government portal.

  • Must a lawyer be present when I give a statement?

As a rule it is optional; in the cases enumerated by law, however, the appointment of defence counsel is mandatory.
